Humans all have an ego when it comes to buying and selling real estate. Many people involved invest heavily in emotions and think it’s a clever tactic. This often happens when the seller blows their counter offer presented by the buyers’ agent.
In real estate it is the sellers overall objective to sell the home in question. Marketing tools are in place and the seller woos the buyer until an offer is placed. Even if the offer is reasonable, the first offer is almost always rejected. The seller will make a counter off and the buyer must decide on what to do. This process can go back and forth depending on the issues at hand.
If the buyer throws you a low ball, don’t be offended! If you take it personal and try to teach the buyer a lesson by being ridged and unmotivated, nobody wins. View these situations as a business transaction and not an attack against your home. When it’s taken personal the goal is no longer to sell the home but to throw another insult back at the buyer.
Giving a clever counter offer of only 1 or 2 thousand less then your asking price is always a fun game. But when the buyer doesn’t respond, it’s because they’ve moved onto other properties. In real estate you are dealing with high emotions and real people.
It’s a known fact that you will sometimes get a low ball offer. Take a break and go for a walk. Do not let it affect your judgment if you are serious about selling your home. The fact that they made an offer shows that they are motivated. Make them wait a little bit and don’t respond to the situation within the hour. Take your time and have an educated approach to your real estate transaction.
